Flight Fare Conditions

Refunds Refundable up to 7 days before departure subject to $50 fee per one-way fare
When a solo traveller has paid the 2 fare minimum and others subsequently book on the same flight leg, one fare is refundable subject to $50 fee per one-way fare. Contact us to request
Changes Up to 24 hours before departure booking can be rescheduled or open-dated, credit valid for 12 months, subject to $50 fee per one-way fare
Less than 24 hours before departure no changes permitted, and the fare will be forfeited if passenger is a no-show
For all changes, if the new fare is greater than the original fare paid, an additional charge equal to the fare difference will be incurred
No charge to transfer to another passenger, subject to availability
Special Fares 'Special' class fares may be offered on the repositioning legs of Standard fare flights booked by other passengers (other than between Wellington and Takaka). If passengers travelling on Standard fares cancel or reschedule their booking, the repositioning flight may be cancelled, in which case holders of Special fares may credit their fares towards another booking or receive a full refund. For any other cancellation or change, our standard conditions apply
Children and Infants Child fares: Available to children under 12 years old on Wellington-Takaka service only
Infant fares: Children under 2 years of age are free of charge if seated on an adult’s lap but infants are not allocated a separate baggage allowance. Baggage may be included in accompanying adult allowances
Body weight declaration Personal body weights must declared accurately for the safe loading of our aircraft. We may weigh passengers on check-in to verify. If there is a discrepancy between your declared weight and your actual weight, we reserve the right to refuse carriage of yourself or baggage with no refund

Oversize Please advise if you have larger items such as wheelchairs or large suitcases. Otherwise, the maximum dimensions of an individual bag or suitcase are W=600mm x D=250mm x H=800mm. Individual bags must not weigh more than 23kg. Items exceeding 800mm in any dimension may incurr a handling charge
Pets Small animals may be carried in airline-approved pet carriers. All pet freight must be booked in advance

Bikes All bikes must be booked in advance. Note that e-bikes cannot be carried on any aircraft unless the battery can be removed and not flown. Passengers wishing to have e-bikes transported should select our return shuttle bus options. Please contact us to book
Golden Bay Air provide wheel and bike bags to pack up and protect your bikes during the flight. We stow the bags side by side in the aircraft, with wheels removed and stored separately. Please present bikes in a clean state with wheels and baggage removed and seat post lowered. Pedals do not need to be removed

Freight $3 per kg plus $10 handling fee

Restricted items

Passengers are not permitted to carry hazardous substances. In particular:

  • Camping gas, flammable fluids. Gas canisters are available in Takaka and Karamea for $8. Passengers may carry one double action ignition lighter or small packet of safety matches on their person
  • Aerosols greater than 0.5 litres may not be carried
  • Lithium batteries with lithium battery content less than 2g, up to 160Wh can only be carried if installed in a small portable device such as a laptop or camera. All devices with lithium batteries must be stored in the aircraft cabin. Lithuium batteries greater than 160Wh (such as e-bike batteries) cannot be carried
  • Firearms and ammunition can be carried by prior arrangement. Ammunition <5kg, separated from firearm, bolt from firearm removed. A valid firearms licence must be available for inspection
  • Diving cylinders, paint, pesticides may not be carried

Body weight not required Passenger body weights are not required for shuttle bookings, however the body weight field still must be completed to continue in the booking form. Enter 1 (kg) for shuttle bookings

Unaccompanied Children

Unaccompanied children aged between 7 and 11 years can travel at the child fare on our Wellington-Takaka service but must be booked by contacting us. Full contact details must be provided for the adult checking the child in and for the person picking the child up at the destination. If the flight is cancelled for any reason we may reschedule the booking to another flight. Additional fees and conditions may apply if Golden Bay Air is required to use alternate transport operators

Flight Check-in and Transport

Please keep your cellphone handy in case we need to contact you on the day of travel. Our counters open at check-in time—your pilot will check you in. Check-in closes 20 minutes prior to departure, or as advised on your e-Ticket

Wellington Check in: Wellington Airport Domestic Terminal Gates 3-5. Proceed with your bags directly through the open barrier leading to Gates 3-12 and wait at Gate 3 Lounge. Your flight will not be called over the public address system—your pilot will meet you at our check-in desk at Gate 3 Lounge at check-in time
The Airport Express bus service runs between Wellington Airport and the Wellington Railway Station seven days a week

Takaka Check-in: Golden Bay Air Terminal, Takaka Airport, 290 Takaka-Collingwood Highway (5km towards Collingwood from Takaka). Free carparking

At Nelson, Marahau/Kaiteriteri, Takaka and Karamea, we offer a choice of pickup and dropoff locations. Select your pickup and/or dopoff locations when booking online or by contacting us. If you have not pre-arranged a pickup or dropoff location, please wait at the standard locations below:

Takaka: Golden Bay Air Terminal, Takaka Airport, 290 Takaka-Collingwood Highway

Nelson: Miller Acre carpark bus stop, 41 Halifax Street, Nelson

Marahau/Kaiteriteri: Abel Tasman carpark bus stop, 2 Harvey Road, Marahau

Wainui: Wainui carpark, 280 McShane Rd, Wainui Bay (cellphone reception)

Brown Hut: Brown Hut carpark shelter (cellphone reception)

Kohaihai: Kohaihai carpark shelter (cellphone reception)

Karamea: Karamea Aerodrome, Aerodrome Road unless otherwise noted on your ticket

Please be waiting at least 10 minutes prior the time noted on your ticket. Note that pickup times may vary by up to 15 minutes to that printed on your ticket. Keep your cellphone handy in case we need to contact you on the day of travel

Golden Flyer Loyalty Programme

Golden Bay Air invites customers who have booked 10 one-way flights to join our Golden Flyer scheme. This applies a discount on bookings a member makes for themselves, friends and family on our Wellington-Takaka route. Contact us to join

For Golden Flyers booking online at goldenbayair.co.nz click ‘Book Online’. When the booking screen appears, click ‘Sign in’. Enter the login details provided by Golden Bay Air. The fares displayed will have the discount automatically applied. If booking over the phone or by email, please mention your Golden Flyer username at the time of booking
